March madness

So we'll be gone for the regionals AND the semis. Bummer. Like I really need to sit around all day watching college hoops for weeks on end. Nevertheless, it is a bummer. To miss one of the most exciting months in sports. Maybe we can catch some in a pub somewhere. Doubtful. But you never know. Ha! This may be a way to get G to go out to a pub w/ me! So I've picked no cinderella teams this year. Seton Hall over Wichita and NC St over CA. All of the 9th seeds over the 8s. Everything else is nothing spectacular. Looks kind of boring, actually. That's just the 1st round. Haven't picked anything past that yet. Hey, I've got a couple more days. Chill.

On the homefront: Fi's fever finally broke. Thank God. I'm sooooooooo tired from waking up so much over the last week. At least last night it was just Finn. Lib seems much better.

Poor G's birthday was less than boring. We did have his favorite meal -corned beef & cabbage (which, Madster has decided is also her favorite & has requested it as her birthday meal as well). Yeah yeah yeah, it is a couple days early to be eating that meal. But hey, St Paddy's falls on a Friday this year; I imagine we'll be eating fish sandwiches or something like that so I don't have to cook (we're leaving @ 9pm). I certainly miss PGH this time of year. Nothing like a tasty fish sandwich from Abate's or Nied's. We have no seafood here in CO. Well, nothing other than what is flown in frozen from who knows where. And it's mostly limited to salmon, trout, shrimp, catfish. Occasional yellowfin & other pricey seafood can be found @ Whole Foods, etc. But it's not the same as buying from Wholey's. And there is not a good fish sandwich that I've found here. Sad but true.

FYI & the Sopranos

So, Lib is up & about; feeling better, playing, almost her usual chatty self. Fi is still feeling a little ill. She's lying on the futon in a semi-stupor. Or, could it be the over stimulation coming at her from the idiot box? She has been camped out in front of the thing for at least 5 days now. Of course, now I don't feel well -sore throat, cruddy cough kind of not well. I'd like to just knit & read & watch movies all day. But mom-duties call 24/7. No rest for the wicked. That and it's G's birthday. I will have to come up w/ some clever -can't leave the house-type presents, since I've been at home w/ the quarantined duo all week. I'd love to divulge more here, but inevitably, he's reading this too.

So did ya catch episode 66? G says "this is pretty boring for a season opener" & no sooner the words out of his mouth than BAM Uncle Jun shoots Tony. I think I screamed! Seriously. I was trying to figure out what Junior said (something in Italian) & not paying attention to what he was doing. Totally shocking. Also bizarre to see Tony & Carmela eating sushi. This is the first episode that I've actually seen the night that it premieres; I've seen every episode until this one either on DVD or on-demand.

Oh, and we finally have DVR! G broke down & ordered it ONLY b/c he had to play soccer yesterday & would miss the ManU game. That and we'll miss the season finale of The Shield while we're on hols (NOT b/c I wanted it MONTHS ago so I could watch Project Runway late nights w/o interruptions)

the requisite fuzzyfeet pic

I love love love my new slippers! I can't wait to knit another pair. Maddie's already asked for a green pair. I think I've found a pattern in different sizes...yay! Posted by Picasa

new projects

I am starting a pair of fingerless mitts/wristwarmers. They're not "gloves" b/c there is only a thumbhole; the finger area is knit open w/o separate openings for each finger. I have a neat varigated orangey-pink wool blend to use.

I'm also knitting a hat for G's birthday on Monday -if I can get his head circumference. The yarn is a wool blend in a dark -almost black- navy w/ some specks of red throughout.

I'll need to take an extra project w/ me on vacation. Of course, I should probably finish the scarf that I had started lsat year sometime (maybe even longer ago!) Thank God knitting needles are allowed back on planes! I hate to fly anyway, but to have to sit for hours on end w/ nothing to do with my hands? Intolerable cruelty!

and happy as can be to oblige. This is pre-illness, obviously -she looks so healthy. Amazing what a little wee virus can do. Posted by Picasa

you know it's bad when...

Fi says "I just don't feel like chocolate" when I offer her pudding. Poor babies look pathetic. They won't eat anything except freeze pops, water, & sometimes pedialyte. They won't take medicine; G had to practically force Lib to take advil last night when her temp was 104. The fever's up & down for both. The cough is the same horrible sounding congested mess. And now I'm getting the cough. I am popping cold snap like mad in the hopes of avoiding the flu symptoms. The ONLY good thing about this bout of flu is that I can actually get some things done around here w/o being interrupted every 10 minutes; the girls are in & out of sleep downstairs -no fighting, not much crying, not much whining. The occasional request to be held until giving in again to sleep. I called the doc last night just to check if the symptoms warranted a trip to the ER. He said this round of flu is lasting 5-7 & even 10 days with kids looking as sick as you can imagine (I'm guessing it's that pathetic, runny nose, heavy-lidded, tearing, dazed eyes look my kids have). Great.

fuzzy feet!!

I have finished the fuzzy feet slippers finally! Yay! I'm so excited; it's my first project that is not a rectangle in shape & my first foray into DPNs. All went well other than having to rip out the first slipper entirely b/c it looked plain sloppy. My second slipper turned out fabulous & the re-knit slipper equally so. I felted them yesterday & am eagerly (impatiently) waiting for them to dry. Too bad we've had snow or they'd have dried overnight. Pics to be posted soon....
