So we've got this great little girl dog now! I had to drive waaaaaay down to Cripple Creek...or as a former resident pointed out to me way UP there. Southwest, @ 9,000+ ft. Whatever. It was a long ass 3 hour drive to get there. Half freeway, half winding mountain 30mph road. As always so much slower getting there than back again.
She was gorgeous in her pic online. I had to have her. I just knew she was the one. Garrett asked if he had a choice. Ha! The last two places I rented were specifically so we could have a dog. Four years later, FINALLY, here she is!!
Everyone was quite excited about her anticipated arrival. Maddie asked could I please call her @ school to tell her when we had Cody in our possession. See, she's writing a series of books. About M. J. C. (Can you tell she's a Junie B. Jones fan?) She's on book five, which is about getting a dog. Chapter one was finished & she needed to start chapter 2. But she couldn't do so until she knew we had picked up Cody.
Finn & Lib were equally excited and they endured the car ride w/ me to meet Cody in person.
Two naps to get there & back...no wonder they didn't want to sleep that night :P
I must say, Cody was a little bigger than I had imagined. She was just as excited to see us, it seemed. I was just a teensy bit apprehensive...would she get along w/ everyone...including Kit & Denali? Would she have bad habits? Would she be aggressive w/ other dogs? other people? Hell, I didn't even know if she was housetrained. She was a pretty much a stray. No medical records. No history. Not even a name. Cody was the name the animal control woman picked randomly from the computer.
Well, Cody is a good name, I think. It suits her well. And she seems to like it. Cody is as good a dog as anyone could want! She is so mild mannered. Very easy going, yet playful. She's patient w/ the girls. They can sit on her, share her food, give Fiona style "I love you sooooooooooooooooooo much" hugs. She is housetrained. She knows some commands -sit, down, come. She listens really well. We're working on stay & heel. She does like to pull on the leash. And she has a penchant for carrying off plastic things to the middle of the yard -a sand shovel, a sand bucket, the empty wipes container, an empty milk jug, a water bottle. Oh well, no one's perfect.
What else? She must have been fed @ the table but we're working on that too. Don't mind her lying in the same room waiting or even eating her own food. Just don't want her waiting for scraps from heaven or wandering under the table sniffing for crumbs. I busted her w/ paws on the table after lunch yesterday & then after dinner too. OUR new family habit is to clear the table immediately.
We're working on learning that she can't lay on the furniture. She tries. She's very curious about Denali. I think poor Denali is not so happy about the big dog w/ paws on the dresser, trying to pull the cage down w/ her teeth to get friendly.
Cody would loooooove to hang w/ the cat. She's persistent & patient. Kit is ever so slowly coming around. She still hisses but she's not swatting so much. And she's letting Cody get a little closer. A little.
To be continued...I hear devlish laughter coming from the back porch...can only mean one thing..."we're having a blast doing something we shouldn't" hahahahahaha :)
