the littles
sleepover in Madster's room

for posterity's sake, this is Mad's very LAST time down the REI slide b/c "I'm just too old now" (meaning all the other kids were less than 1/2 her age)

Feefer was walking up the slide saying "argh! the snake is eating me!! ahhhhhhhh!" and then on the way down "argh! the snake is spitting me out on his tongue!! ahhhhhhh!"

overheard on Wednesday, etc.
Fi was explaining to Nikki her latest adventure: "Yesterday I was swinging & I flipped over! And I didn't even die!!" Lib adds: "Yeah, see, she is still alive!"
I don't know exactly what "flipped over" means to a 5 year old. It could mean that she leaned all the way back until her head was upside down. I know she's been practicing jumping off the swing...at the swing's lowest trajectory point.
Yesterday afternoon was the ECE & Kinder Ladybug Hoedown performance. This time I brought the correct camera...but with dead batteries. It was soooo cute! Cake & ice cream & GOODY BAGS! afterwards in the cafeteria.
Yesterday evening was the 4th grade Shakespeare performance. Single snippets of 1 or 2 acts from Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, 12th Night, Macbeth, and Midsummer's Night Dream divvied up between the 3 classes. Madster performed in a scene from Macbeth. She played the Gentlewoman when Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking. It was extremely entertaining to see the diverse interpretations of the characters & the lines. I offered to sew Maddie a new costume for the occasion but she chose to wear my old renaissance dress instead.

what goes on in the mind of a 4 yo?

no bball premonition
but click here for some hometown excitement.
It makes me homesick to no end. Sure I miss my friends & family all the time, but it's times like these that I even miss strangers who share my passion for PGH sports. It's freaking lonely out here in CO with no other Penguins fans with whom to celebrate.

for the record
Last week when the Cavs beat the Celtics in Cleveland for game 3, I asked G "Aren't the Celtics out yet?" G says to me, "The Celtics are the #1 team, of course they're still playing." oh. For some reason, I thought the series was closer to being over & that the Cavs had won. That's when I realized what my prediction was: the Cavs will defeat the Celtics. So there you have it (or would have had it last week had I bothered to write about it). Well now, here we are at game 7 & we shall see if I actually had a real, live premonition.

Yay! My very first pair of socks completed!!
I'll post details later, I typed the whole story & my computer ate it. Every word.
I started this pair over a year ago. When I finished the first sock, it was about 1 1/2 inches too long. I set it aside, intending to frog a bit in order to shorten the foot. At the beginning of the new year, I decided to go on a UFO finishing rampage so I could justify starting new projects with yarn from my stash. I decided to go ahead & knit the second sock & frog the 1st sock after. It finally clicked that I should measure my own foot, try on the sock when the foot was about 1/2 finished & figure in the toe measurement. The second sock fit perfectly when finished!!! BUT the 2nd sock was knit in the K2P2 pattern, whereas the 1st sock was knit in the K1P1 pattern! I had to rip out the WHOLE first sock instead of just a few rows!!! No big deal though, and now the 1st sock fits perfectly too!! yay!! (I think I may have read two different versions of finishing b/c the toes look a little different between the two socks.)
pattern: Rock 'n Ribbed socks (K2P2) by Besty Lee McCarthy
yarn: Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Socks That Rock, heavyweight, unknown colorway
size: woman's medium
