turkey day 2008
just a few snaps. Nikki made the trip in from BoCo with her boyfriend Jeremy (aka Jermy, aka Jermany, aka Jamie -depending on who you ask) and his kid sister Janie Ann. Our very good friend Victor (aka Uncle V) also showed up. It was a relaxing, fun day for everyone. The Jo Bro halftime show of the Dallas game was icing on the cake, of course, with the fan section sitting front & center whilst everyone else had to take side seats. A few pairs of sparkling eyes & quiet vocal accompaniment. You get the picture.
The turkey turned out way delicious -despite the fact that someone turned off the oven when the bird was about 100 degrees. Maddie clued me in when she said "hmmm, it's still 100 degrees. That's the same as it was when I last looked." Sure enough, I realized the aroma of roasting turkey had faded & there was no "sizzle" coming from the oven. Easily corrected & the bird was done only an hour later than planned. It was all good. No one even really had that mid evening food coma b/c we ate so late.
One thing I think I'll not do next time is bake the stuffing separately. In an effort to have some semblance of "healthy" in our menu, I opted to not stuff the bird. Sadly, the stuffing, though tasty, was not succulent as it should be.
We missed the company of Lindsay, Trev & Roisin due to their week long battle with some pesky virus. But a little care package was delivered & at least they were in attendance in heart.
I just made the basics this year; no gourmet, 5 course menu like I did a few years ago & ended up not sleeping at all for cooking all the night before. I'll probably throw in a few of those gourmet morsels at Christmas this year. Put in your requests &/or invite acceptances now (Victor? Lindz? Trev? Ben?)
To top off the meal, Snick made not one, not two, but THREE pies! Yes she did! She got off work Wednesday night & stayed up all night baking. Didn't I tell you she's the bestest 20 year old?! Pumpkin, Pecan, and Grasshopper. All delectable. A little mousie (or rather 1 big & two little) had been sampling the pumpkin pie before dinner. In my ideal world, Lindsay would have her own photo studio & Snick would have a pie diner.

squeeeeeee!!! dems so coooot!*****
I want I want I want I want!!!!! It's a whole litter of Cody mini-me's Except for Cobo's about 15" & 30 lbs heavier than these cuties will grow to be. Every day since we've found this cam, the girls constantly ask to check out the puppies. I tried to convince them that we should just ask for a new puppy for xmas instead of anything else. That met with consternation & scolding from Fi & Lib "Hey no! I want an American Girl doll" "I'm getting a DS". sigh. well, I guess I can just put it on my list & hope for the best...Cody would looooooove to have some company, I'm sure. Although I'm also sure G wouldn't want to clean up twice the poo. Hmmmm, except a shiba would have smaller poo...and as Maddie chastises me to stop talking about poo, I will leave you with these cuties...
*****webcam has been moved to the sidebar & will be removed when the puppies go to their respective homes.

OMG OMG OMG
The things I endure to entertain my kids...It's Nick Jonas! at Fiddler's Green! And if you listen at the very beginning of the clip, you will hear...the littles!!! and then listen again about 4:10 to 4:23 or so...each of the three girls professing their love...a random search of You Tube just now to keep the girls occupied during Turkey day vaca. Crazy, huh?
more portraits
like I said before, we had the girls' (sadly, sans Nikki) portraits taken a couple weeks ago. Many thanks to Auntie Linsday, the ever talented photographer. (She really ought to have her own studio).
Here's one. The rest will be on Flickr. That's it over there, the Flickr badge. Don't be shy. Click on it. BUT, if you want to see these pics, you'll have to be a member of my friends & family group at that site. Easy peasy. Either I've already sent an invite (& I've sent many ignored invites) & you need to accept. Or, barring that, ask & ye shall receive.

from the mouth of the babe...
this morning upon waking:
"mom, how do you spell 'tooth'?"
"what's the first sound you hear?"
"t"
"what's the next sound you hear?"
"o"
"right, 'o''o' makes 'oo'. What comes next?"
"eth"
"what?"
"'eth'. 't' 'o' 'o' 'eth'"
We had a good crack up over that one. It was a great way to start the day :):):)
(By the bye, we had the girls' pics taken on the evening of 5 November. This was Lib's reaction when we asked her how did she feel about our new president, Barak Obama.)

that's right
shoulder to shoulder we will fight fight fight!
I don't think this is so original, necessarily. Madster was for sure singing this at the same age. But whatever works for a win, right?

good stuff
I thought this would be a cute movie; I wasn't disappointed. The girls thought it was good too -so much so that Lib made sure to tell Garrett at bedtime how good she thought it was and Fi had to act out her favorite bits. A good scare, a few tense moments, a few touching moments, and quite a few out loud laughs -for all 5 of us.

seen lately
I took Lib to see this while Snick took the other sisters to see HSM3 (no, I had not even a small interest in seeing that flick. Besides Fi acted out all 8 of her favorite scenes for me later that day. All involved Corbin Bleu). The movies were a treat from Snick! She's our favoritest 20 year old!)
The movie was cute & humorous. One sad scene -complete with sad music- actually made Lib almost cry! I looked over to check on her & she had big tears in her eyes. Awwwww! Ya know, I would probably watch this flick again.

WTF!?!?
My neighbor has a yard full of leaves. Very full. And just now up pulls a landscaping truck. And they've got oh, I think I heard 4 leaf blowers start up. It's loud as fcuk! And my kids WERE ALL SLEEPING IN! WERE being the operative word here. I was enjoying my quiet time. I tell ya, there ought to be a law! "No leaf blowing on weekends until noon". Or "No more than one leaf blower at a time in residential neighborhoods". Or better yet, "Only a certain decibel of noise allowed in a residential neighborhood". Wait, I think that is a law, isn't it? My only hope is that with 4 blowers going, it'll take less time to finish the job. Hmmmm, and I guess it'll make me appreciate how quiet my neighborhood normally is. Nevertheless, in MY world, there would a law banning such inconsiderate behavior.
tribute to black & white movies party
hmmmm, what can I say? I was totally stoked about this party. I mean, really, a THEME party? Yay! A party with a theme of black & white movies? Squeee! And not just a house party but a real live shindig at the DCPA? Where do I sign up???
Most of you know that my very favorite era is circa 1930's to 1950's. OMG this was going to be a swell party & I was going to freaking dress accordingly. And so I did. And so did Garrett. We took light rail & everything & it was probably our 3rd real date this year (sad but true). Another couple on the train asked if we were going to see Madame Butterfly because of the way we were dressed.
Okay, so I knew we would be the best dressed in the joint. And I was right. And I kinda sorta thought alot of other people wouldn't really dress for the occasion. But I didn't expect us to be the ONLY people dressed for the theme! There was one other woman who was wearing a 1930's era gown/bridal gown, but I kid you not, that was it!
I can't complain too much, I mean, it was tasty food & booze & a band & dancing. AND I was even able to get Garrett on the dance floor for one solitary slow dance -our first in 6 years! (yes, really)
BUT the band played mostly disco. Fine, it's good for dancing & most of the people in attendance were about the age to have gone through early adulthood in the 70's. But ya know, if I were in charge, there would have been a swing band or a jazz band.
And as for the dress code, granted the invite did say "Black & white party or business casual attire". But c'mon folks be a little imaginative! Dress for the theme too!! Garrett said that of course the party attendees wouldn't be able to cut loose like that because they're doctors & they're so used to being "responsible" all the time, all their adult lives. Whatev. It's a PARTY! A THEME party!
At least I know we looked fab!

um yeah, I totally forgot about my paid Flickr account for posting pics of the fam. I'll post a few here, but most of them I want to continue updating on Flickr in an effort to get my money's worth & all.

look what we woke up to today...
a surefire way to get the girls out of bed on time...just add snow! Powder hound Maddie was the first one up & dressed & outside before 8am! She actually cleaned off the minivan for me! The littles quickly followed suit when I told them they could play outside before school.

if only I had a need
I would buy this hot truck. Have you seen the commercial for this "Full-size Pickup Truck of Texas" ???? hot truck.
NCAA football & age
I know I'm getting old when I'm watching Alabama & LSU play yesterday & both QBs look like their between 12 & 16 years old. (& I know I'm getting a decent buzz when I misspell "they're")
well, why not?
Ya know, I would move to Boston if only so G would have that sexy accent like Marky Marks'....

from pumpkin to jack 'o lantern
Miles and miles of pumpkins...our yearly trek to Rock Creek Farm
must find just the right pumpkin
we went a bit later than usual this year...the straw bale maze was trashed
Fi enjoyed it regardless
lovely Long's Peak in the distance
ewwww pumpkin guts!
not bad for a 4 year old, huh? She cleaned it out completely by herself!
the green ones are from our own patch in the backyard...slowly turning orange
