what a hoot!

Garrett received an email tonight that I would love to post here but can't get the graphics to load. Basically it's a blatant advertisement FROM the MLB selling tickets on STUB HUB. Well, I guess technically it's not the MLB selling the tickets. But they do get 25% of the profits. WTF?!?!?! Ah capitalism at it's best. (sit down first...maybe have oxygen or a paper bag or a puke bucket handy...maybe a tissue for your tears) and then check out the prices for yourself at this site. Unfcukingbelievable. Again, it might be people who will actually go if it comes down to not being able to sell the tickets. But really. Who do they think is going to pay such exhorbitant prices? Certainly not the "real" fans. Could we -or anyone we know- afford that? Um that's a big negatory. It's highway robbery. Is it going to be a stadium full of celebrities? I would laugh so hard I might pee my pants if Coors field is half empty for the World Series.

Garrett says he's ready to boycott baseball...forever. Is it the MLB's fault? Is it money grubbing "fans"? Being a socialist, I can totally point my finger at capitalism. I say we all boycott the World Series this year. Teach everyone involved in this shameful travesty of professional sports a lesson that will be learned by anyone thinking this might be the way of the future. I shouldn't have to sell my firstborn child in order to go to a playoff game. Or my left nut (if I had one). Make it a rule that if you buy the ticket, you have to go to the game. I think the World Cup soccer games are like that...no scalpers, problem solved. Or that it's illegal to sell the ticket over face value. And then friggin' crack down.

I just don't know whether to be angry or to laugh about this whole ridiculous event. Fools. Are there really that many fools out there who would so easily part with their money? I guess the saying is true. As is the PT Barnum quote...SUCKERS! And not that I wish this, but if the Rockies tank (like they did tonight) will that force ticket prices back into normalcy?

Maybe I'm a little sad, too, that "America's favorite pasttime" has been hijacked like this. I would love to hear what the ball players think of all this nonsense.

Did you know that Stub Hub is a partner with the Pittsburgh Pirates? They are actually teaching their season ticket holders how to use Stub Hub so that they can all work together (Pirates, Stub Hub, and season tix holders) to sell any tickets that aren't wanted... Stub Hub is a nice idea - if they would somehow put a limit on the ticket sale prices... like ebay tried to do, but there are ways around it.

That's interesting. According to the parameters on the website, it's for people selling tickets who WOULD go to the game, but can't...not for people to sell tickets that they've bought solely for the purpose of re-selling for a profit. It should be face-value only.
