CO Renaissance Festival '09 pt2

Maddie always requests the elephant ride. I don't recommend after this year; it lasted all of 30 seconds for $4. Boo!

Jeremy was chosen from the audience to participate onstage with The German Brothers. "Brother! He's flexing his 'moobs' -that's German for man boobs"

"Brother! He's clenching!"

"They face off nose to nose"

Jamey's catwalk wasn't too impressive but...

his best Zoolander pout was the piece de resistance

the Brother asked of Nikki, "Does he give you that look at home?"

Who knew Jamey could be so good at improv onstage?

not one, but TWO thumbs up for his performance from that little guy

more from Sunday, 19 July

Lib is the only pickle eating girl in our family. It is her favorite "vegetable".

Hello, gorgeous!

#1 thing to do on Fi's list for the day: camel ride

"Mom! They're creeping me out!"

observing the observers

Always Lib's #1 request at the RenFest; & she always comes away wanting one of her own to keep in the back yard

purdy boy with wonky teeth

my favorite part of the RenFest -except for the flying bits of tomato (just don't wear white & stand too close). $1/tomato, take your best shot & be prepared for relentless verbal payback. By far the most humorous show of the day (other than the one that Jamey was chosen to participate in...check back tomorrow for those pics)

Washing Well Wenches -must sit up front for the best interaction

quick post for now

Can you guess where we went on Sunday? I'll post the rest later....

These scrummy brownies made by Maddie lasted less than 24 hrs. She even improvised & found a recipe for cream cheese frosting instead of the usual chocolate. It was a whole pan-full of homemade one-bite brownie heaven!

how to keep girls busy...

...for about 60 minutes: hand them a hairbrush, spray bottle, and assorted hair ties, bobby pins & barrettes

mystery sweets

When I was in San Fran in May, I spent part of one day in Japantown. One little store sold sweets. I had no idea what to buy, so I went with "cute" and "sale". It was a surprise in the literal sense.

What? You say there's sugar-y goodness in there?

They look interesting & cute...but how do they taste?

I can't read Japanese, but the cute pics are self-explanatory

Inside & out, it was like a fig newton, but not as sickly sweet. I've had some bean pastes that were not as sweet & -to me- not so tasty. This was a pleasantly successful experiment in yum.

Maddie's bday 2009

First we celebrated on her actual birthday while we were in Spain. She was quite concerned that it would be a horrible day because she wouldn't get a "real" birthday. Tell me what you think? Was it a horrible day?

Her birthday this year was on a Sunday. The plan was to first go to El Rastro -the biggest (so I read) flea market in Europe. I didn't get as many pictures as I could have because I was too busy shopping! It was huge & fun!

interesting name for clothing store?

The flea market stretched down all these alleys & streets; I couldn't get one comprehensive picture, but if you click to enlarge this one, you get an idea of what I mean.

reminded me of "Transfomers"

ornate iron work

oh lovely art deco

front facade of our hotel in the daytime

When we arrived back at our hotel, we found this lovely confection in our room, complete with "11" candles. Along with an ice bucket filled with champagne & 3 milks. "Compliments of the hotel manager"! How kind!!

After cake, we went to the world renowned El Prado for a couple hours. Free on Sundays! and it was just across the street from our hotel.

On our stroll to the museum, we saw street performers

this cool souvenir store

this church on the hill above el Prado

this side entrance at least had a sign notating where we were; the main entrance did not

this awesome statue

Pressies at home. (goodies I found at Japantown in San Francisco for her!) She had to look up the Kanji b/c I didn't know the exact translation. So far she's figured out "______ Sweet Home"

The M.A.C. lippie, she already knew about, was from Macy's here

a phone charm for her new cell. (turns out the phone she got, sadly, doesn't have a notch for the charm)
