mystery sweets

When I was in San Fran in May, I spent part of one day in Japantown. One little store sold sweets. I had no idea what to buy, so I went with "cute" and "sale". It was a surprise in the literal sense.

What? You say there's sugar-y goodness in there?


They look interesting & cute...but how do they taste?


I can't read Japanese, but the cute pics are self-explanatory


Inside & out, it was like a fig newton, but not as sickly sweet. I've had some bean pastes that were not as sweet & -to me- not so tasty. This was a pleasantly successful experiment in yum.
